Notes about using FTBCAT with the VR-5000
Speeds of 4800 baud and 9600 baud work OK. 57600 baud usually does not work. This is believed to be a Yaesu problem with the rig.
You need a null modem cable (plug A pin 2 connects to plug B pin 3; plug A pin 3 connects to plug B pin 2; plug A pin 5 connects to plug B pin 5 - all assuming 9 pin D-type connectors).
Set the s-meter delay to about 30 else you may not stop on a busy channel when scanning.
Remember to turn on VFO B otherwise the rig does not send any s-meter values to the PC and scanning will not stop on a busy channel.
Set the command delay to about 30 else you may get a 'low voltage error' on the rig if you do any fast frequency tuning by dragging the mouse in the spectrum scan area.
Because the VR-5000 does not report back its operating frequency or mode you must 'drive' the rig from the PC. Use the GoTo facility to go directly to a frequency. The program remembers the last frequency and mode used, so the next time you start the program it will tune the rig to where you were.
